Open Letter To The Media From Pet Owners
90If a species' jaws do NOT ROTATE, therefore it can NOT CHEW and has NO --------->>> TEETH SHAPED FOR GRINDING -- any wild guesses as to why vomiting, blocking, UTI/FLUTD, etc., and ever-rising Diabetes II are considered such "normal cat things"? And our dogs suffer from hot spots, digestive & dental, etc. issues that never seem to go away completely? They're carnivores, too, and their jaws don't rotate, either!

From Dr. Michael W. Fox, aka "Ask the Animall Doctor":
"A 2004 listing in order of frequency of the ten most common claims of over 6,400 medical conditions that Vetrinary Pet Insurance. Inc. received from cat and dog owners certainly reveals a high incidence of the most probable ‘junk food’ related diseases in the dog and cat population of the U.S., with the exception of bite abscesses in cats and soft tissue trauma in dogs, (both conditions being associated with animals who are allowed to free-roam).
For dogs: Ear infection; Stomach inflammation; Skin irritation; Tumors/growths; Skin infection/hot spots; Urinary tract infection; Osteoarthritis; Hypothyroidism; Inflammation of the intestinal tract; Soft tissue trauma.
For cats: Urinary Tract Infection; Stomach inflammation; Kidney disease; Bite Abscess; Diabetes; Hyperthyroidism; Inflamed colon; Conjunctivitis; Ear infection; Skin irritation.
–As for the contribution of highly processed commercial diets to the sickness and suffering of cats and dogs, the fact remains that animals often make spectacular recoveries, not when put on special prescription diets, but when taken off all such ‘junk’ convenience foods, and are instead fed balanced diets appropriate for their species (e.g. no cereal-based diets for carnivorous...) - Michael W. Fox, B. Vet. Med., Ph.D., D.Sc., M.R.C.V.S.
Although they're right here in this Harvard Law Paper http://leda.law.harvard.edu/leda/data/784/Patrick06.html ---
and have been stated by just one of many veterinarians speaking up:
ANSWERS NOBODY KNOWS
1) Can anyone enlighten as to any actual medicine and/or nutritional benefits derived from these combinations of main ingredients which have been "prescribed" for:
a. Canine, facultative carnivore: Whole Grain Corn, Corn Gluten Meal, Chicken By-Product Meal, Soybean Mill Run, Powdered Cellulose, Soybean Meal, Chicken Liver Flavor, Dried Beet Pulp, Lactic Acid, Soybean Oil, Caramel Color, DL-Methionine...
b. Feline, obligate carnivore: Brewers Rice, Corn Gluten Meal, Pork Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), Chicken By-Product Meal, Dried Egg Product, Dried Chicken, Powdered Cellulose, Fish Meal, Lactic Acid, Calcium Carbonate, Chicken Liver Flavor, Dried Beet Pulp, DL-Methionine... Iodized Salt ...
2) WHY would a client-consumer totally suspend all belief and logic in regard to these species and actually feed this to their own? (Because it's being labeled, sold, and prescribed as "Prescription", therefore being perceived as MEDICINE.)
So:
3) Can anybody cite any actual MEDICINE in these "prescription formulas"? (Answer is right on the INGREDIENT LABELS.)
4) Then how can they possibly justify the PRICE -- as much as $75.00 -- which naive clients shell out for it, especially when comparing the INGREDIENTS side-by-side with a bargain brands' ingredients? (See ALPO's Savory Beef which lists BEEF and CHICKEN within the first FOUR main ingredients.)
5) Can they also explain why they think carnivorous companion mammals should be eating sawdust (of PINE TREE) and Soybean Mill Run 5-a.) Are they even aware of just what that Powdered Cellulose comes from?
6) Has it ever occurred to people that eating species-inappropriate things is what actually CAUSES all the most common ailments and diseases in the first place?
Carnivores' dentition and digestive systems do not permit efficient processing of grains and vegetable matter (let alone the inexplicable "things" listed above.) This is why nature designed them to eat what is already DIGESTED in their prey. 7) Can anybody deny this?
8) So you think that this "Rx" chow is working, eliminating your dog's existing issues/ allergies, because it's such a "special" diet? WELL, WERE YOU FEEDING YOUR DOG SAWDUST OF PINE TREE AND SOYBEAN MILL RUN PRIOR TO TAKING IT TO THE vET?! As for the cat -- go ahead, read those ingredients again -- you bet that the clinically dehydrated species with the NATURALLY LOW THIRST DRIVE is going to be sapping up more and more water to compensate for the needed moisture it needs and instinctly craves thus thngs will "flow" better!
9) Would we consider it ethical and LEGAL should our family Physicians have such a "relationship" with the Snack Food Industry and convinced everybody that "prescription" corn chip diets were necessary -- while they profited from the corn chip sales, as well as, drug company points for various medications sold to mask the ailments resulting from such a strict diet?
Would we accept this -- despite the ingredients we see listed right on the packages -- and just pay the price, just as we do without hesitation for our chronically ailing, over-drugged pets?
10) Are there any differences between the Oath veterinarians took with that of our Physicians/M.D.s?
-Virtually everybody who SHOULD be alerting, and informing companion animal owners of this issue is invariably tied to, and profits from, the Commercial Pet Food Industry.
-Unlike Physicians, vets only have to answer to their own governing body - itself largely funded by the Commercial Pet Food Industry.
So guess who gets to "teach" these vets "NUTRITION", too!
Naive companion animal owners are convinced by their trusted veterinarians that their pets "need" to ingest these things to get well, yet corn (tough to digest) -- along with soy and wheat which are also most prevalent in most of these foods -- is among the most common, PROVEN, causes of allergies and other health issues in dogs and cats.
And nobody's ever warned us?
Had to find it all out on the INTERNET after having learned it all the hard way!
11) What of all the pet owners who don't know to be digging on the Internet for answers? What about those pets?
Dear Worthless Mainstream Media:
To show my gratitude towards The Worthless Mainstream Mediots for vital Royal Family, Brittany Spears and Tiger Woods information which is so promptly provided with their every breath, I wish to submit a tip exposing a secret pet-healing ring perpetuated by: Those People just saying stuff on the Internet.
Under the influence and guidance of Internet Animal Specialist pet healers, Those People on the Internet routinely provoke unrealistic full healings on their once chronically sick and disease-trodden pets -- which the Vast Majority of the Real World has never seen, nor could believe exist.
Those Internet People apparently know a simple, one-step cure for many dog and cat ailments and disease, which is The Common Factor of their pet-healing information ring, and some even catch living proof of it all on film! They then “Post” it in secret Internet spaces (called "Sites") which they create to document such http://parenting-furkids.com/index.php?topic=539.0 and http://meowmeowmom.wordpress.com/2007/08/11/ralph/ s, etc. in explicit detail.
Top secret passwords, along with "Screen Names" are required to be a part of the sharing of information among Those People on The Internet just saying http://parenting-furkids.com/index.php .
However for the slightest chance of knowing about them, what they do, and how easily they do it, somebody within the vast majority would have to be beyond frustrated with their over-drugged pets never healing from chronic irritations, and start googling. Likewise for the devistated people finally pushed to the brink and seeking answers as to why http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/ralston.html has happened to their pets, along with many others.
When I had my dog in for his diarrhea, hyperthyroidism, chronic ear & skin infections, and (of course) teeth cleaning, I was telling the vets about Those Internet People saying stuff such as completely healing their pets themselves! They all laughed along with me, and instructed me to keep feeding www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showproduct.php?product=1077&cat=7.
Of course it is much easier to just give my pets all the convenient drugs, shampoos, ear drops and ointments (just as the rest of the very busy real world does) than to spend hours Googling like crazy for Internet pet-healing secrets told by Those People just saying stuff on there.
Plus I like vet visits because the receptionists fuss over my pets. It is also fun to ridicule Those Internet People because they buy their MAGIC HEALTH-INDUCING supplies both via the Internet and over-the-counter ... spend a fortune on Those Fancy Foods loaded with MEAT when feeding tests have proven that carnivorous mammals much prefer the taste of www.bornfreeusa.org/facts.php?p=359&more=1 , anyway!
Those Internet People are also very cruel to take their carnivorous pets' corn/soy/wheat/cheap filler from China-laden food away because carnivores, obviously, LOVE the taste so much and can never eat enough of it!
Those Internet People say ALL kinds of stuff!! They brainwash each other into thinking their pets are http://visual.merriam-webster.com/animal-kingdom/carnivorous-mammals.php so I can only imagine how miserable those poor, enjoyment-deprived carnivores must be because Those People even brag about having to trick their pet carnivores into eating Those Fancy Foods!!!
Just like my children who LOVE fast food and are addicted to tasty corn chips (and eat them every single day), my carnivorous companion mammals are plump and pleasant, and overall very happy even during all their vet visits where everyone looks forward to seeing them often. One even forgets the car rides (which he hates with a passion) as soon as I give him his favorite treats whenever we're there for his inflamed bowels, throwing up, urinary tract infections, crystals or bladder stone removals and (of course) teeth cleaning!
My third little carnivore gets to go again next week for his urinary tract infections, chronic vomiting, hypothyroidism blood re-test & pill refill, and (of course) teeth cleaning, so obviously I'm far too busy to be sitting on the Internet like Those People on there just saying stuff.
As a side note, these things (hyperthyroidism, bowel issues, UTIs...) must be extremely contagious, as my carnivorous pets keep catching them from each other just when it appears one's this-or-that might be healing! It would be hard to quarantine them in my house, but Vets say it's "pretty common for both kinds of animals to get them" anyway (and it's not like it's bloody tumor Intestinal growths and/or seizures and/or Kidney-Liver Failure YET) so I feel better.
When they snarl at me, I really get a kick out of my little carnivores' fangy-looking teeth and the weird ways they are shaped. I do sometimes wonder just why they are shaped the way they are ... not like us humans (OR COWS and HORSES)... but it's been so long since the third grade that I forget everything I learned in Biology class way back during The Carter Administration!
Some of Those Internet Animal Specialist pet healers have actually written books (which have somehow also reached shelves in the Real World) and include "Your Cat, Simple New Secrets..., "The New *Animal Doctor's Answer Book"; and the brand new "Not Fit For A Dog! The TRUTH About Manufactured Dog & Cat Food", among many others. However, unless somebody in the Real World is tipped off by an Internet pet-healing information ring insider (as I was), they will remain oblivious to these *Internet* Animal Specialist pet healers' secrets.
So I am tipping you off now just for the fun of it.
There is a Dr. Michael W. Fox who has a bunch of secret Internet cure information and research also unknown to The Vast Majority. Although he writes a syndicated newspaper column for The Real World, his healing secrets will probably remain secrets to The Vast Majority because he's not Michael J. Fox.
I also strongly suspect that Those People just saying stuff on the Internet may be behind the following Internet pet-healing Information ring, and could be sharing all this stuff amongst themselves when they congregate in their secret Internet spaces under their "Screen Names":

I hope this information is somewhat entertaining, and will continue to look forward to ARod's and the Spears, Cruise, Woods and Royal families' every breath which The Worthless Mainstream Media is doing such a fine job of keeping us all abreast of!
I SHOULD also be thanking The Worthless Mainstream Media most profusely for all the alert, prompt reporting and headlines over the past decade and beyond which have prevented widespread confusion and heartbreak, thus the sparing of countless companion annimalz of easily preventable ailments, diseases and premature deaths.
BUT.
The only ones who, apparently, knew anything at all and have been sharing such information all this time were just ...
THOSE PEOPLE JUST 'SAYING STUFF" ON THE INTERNET!!
(And I wasn't one yet.)
Oh well.
They're just animals, right?
Keep up the good work!
-Deceived and Defrauded Pet Owners
Millions of heartbroken pet owners remain totally oblivious to common sense and the indisputable, no thanks to the powerful influences of "trusted" institutions; Conflicts of interest fueled by greed.

I hope this escellent letter will make the media expose the terrible scandal that is going on of Vets telling clients to feed food that is causing diabetes, cancer, kidney failure, heart disease and many other illnesses in pets and the huge scandal of pet food companies funding veterinary schools and even being allowed to teach nutrition to veterinary students. Cambridge University veterinary students have spoken out in the Veterinary Times about this scandal. James Patrick Crilly, a veterinary student at Cambridge University is quoted as saying "pet food manufacturers must not be allowed exclusive access to veterinary nutrition teaching in order to prevent a "dangerous monopoly" which could undermine the free market approach to improving the quality of diets. Lorna Beckinsdale, another Cambridge University veterinary students is quoted as saying "pet food companies should not be able to sponsor nutrition lectures. She said vets should be education, informed and freethinking". Rather than being freethinking most of them have let their intellect be insulted by believing without question what the pet food companies tell them because pet food creates the illness vets need.
Very informative and well said. It is the TRUTH
Thank you for an informative article, though it takes a bit of concentration to understand ( :
Yes the industry is in cahoots with the commercial pet food industry, they make a fortune off of peoples grief. But don't count on Media Exposure, they are afraid of the giant Vet Mafia power. We can only do this via Internet.
This prescription scam is allowed, yet scalpers at Sporting events getting arrested by undercover cops make the news all the time?
People and the Authorities really need to get their priorities straight.
Good job on an important subject, more & more are becoming enlightened not only about pet food---but people food too!!!
My cat became diabetic, and I am convinced his diet played a role. I didn't realize his vet was incompetent, and the staff more incompetent. They gave my cat a massive insulin overdose and left him alone for over 13 hours. He was dramatically brain damaged.
Of course I felt horrible when I realized my cat never had to become diebetic in the first place.
Dr. Hodgkins and Dr. Pierson are both right about diet.
Also, vets routinely mismanage diabetes. There are online communities, includine the feline diabetes message board www.felinediabetes.com, as well as Dr. Hodgkin's site which you provided, where the people on the internet save MANY ANIMALS from death or injury or at least mismanagement of their conditions by vets who apparently don't care enough to learn about proper diabetic care.
I got TWO cats into remission (off insulin) by using tight control with lantus insulin and low carb, no grain food. I don't use the word "cure" because these animals will become diabetic quickly again if they are EVER fed that horrible dry food. Their pancreas' cannot handle the carbohydrate content of this species innappropriate diet.
Excellent and very informative article. However, after I lost my companion to veterinary negligence/malpractice, I searched all the areas of veterinary medicine, pet food, and pet food industries. I was simply SHOCKED with the fraud, deceipt, and greed of the veterinary industry!
For the last year, I have been feeding my companions ONLY HOME-MADE FOOD, and I am trying to use only organic meats and vegetables. I know that my companions are now safe!
I used a food recommended by my vet and two of my dogs died after trying very hard to save them spending lots of money to the same veterinarian that had suggested it. Who made out and who ultimatelty lost , Tasha & Tammymy sweet dogs. God I miss them so. (It was from melamine poising ) ,True the vet didn't taint it but he bought it and sold it and profited from it.
